He attended the University of Colorado and investment banking courses at the Wharton School of Business and the Harvard Business School. He joined the family business of T.C. Henderson & Co Inc. after college. In 1968, at age 34, he was elected President of the family investment firm, which made him the youngest President of a New York Stock Exchange firm at that time. He was an Allied member of the New York Stock Exchange, the Chicago Board of Trade, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the New York Mercantile Exchange, and the New York Coffee and Sugar Exchange. In 1973 Business Week Magazine recognized him in an article about current changes in the securities business. He was President at one time of the Iowa Investment Bankers Association and District Representative for the National Association of Securities Dealers. In 1970 the family investment firm was sold to Piper, Jaffray & Hopwood. Then in 1978, he joined PaineWebber, Inc. now called UBS Financial, Inc. where he worked for 24 years until his retirement in 2001. He was a founding member of the Iowa chapter of the Young Presidents Organization. A director of the mutual fund Supervised Shares of Iowa. Public board memberships included Mid Continent Industries and Cowles Syndicate. Stacey was active in the community for many years serving on a number of boards and committees such as; Board member of the Rotary Club, Des Moines Club and Junior Achievement. He was an active member of the YMCA for many years and served on the Executive committee. He was active in the Friendship Force and he and his wife Cynthia lead a group to Hungary. Stacey loved the outdoors and the mystery of creation. He and Cynthia loved to spend time at their cabin in Minnesota and time in Colorado. They thoroughly enjoyed travel and the excitement of traveling to new places. Dog sledding in the Boundary Waters and trekking in the jungles of Belize bought them the joy of adventure. Stacey became a world traveler after the death of his wife and traveled to many foreign lands. His favorite place to travel was Africa. The lives of Stacey and Cynthia changed abruptly in 1995 when it was discovered Cynthia had ovarian cancer. In 2001 Stacey was told he had cancer and could expect to live only 6 months. Later, another doctor told Stacey his cancer was as dangerous as Cynthia's. They were both battling cancer until 2004 when Cynthia died. They were married 31 years and cherished their time together during their battles with cancer. This experience gave Stacey some insight to what cancer patients face when they are seriously ill. He was a special friend to a number of cancer patients over the years. Stacey, looking for direction to his life after his wife died, attended a stone carving symposium in Marble, Colorado in 2004.
