Mattie Lou Cardwell, resident of Lamont, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 in Ponca City. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home from 3:00-8:00pm on Sunday, and 9:00am-8:00pm Monday. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00pm Monday at the funeral home. A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesdsay, April 12, 2016 at the Lamont Methodist Church with Reverend Alan R. Nagel officiating. Following the ceremony, she will be laid to rest at the Lamont Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Greg Cardwell, Bart Cardwell, Matt Cardwell, Aaron Cardwell, Davin Cardwell, and Thad Cardwell. Honorary casket bearers will be Ted Miller, Ruben Pacheco, Corey Armstrong, Shawn Blackburn, and Jason Morgan. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home. Mattie was born on April 1, 1921 to Henry Clay Dixon and Mary Zone "Kittie" McCamant in Marland, OK. She was raised in Kay and Grant Counties, graduating high school from Lamont. On November 7, 1942 in Reno, NV, she was married to Elton L Cardwell. They celebrated 70 years of marriage before his passing in 2013. Mattie was a care giver at heart. Her joy was found in looking after her friends and family. No one was ever allowed to leave her home hungry. She relished in the holidays and any gathering that would bring her family together where she could give them her love and great food. Mattie was also a soft spoken, kind lady. She was able to keep her cool even in challenging circumstances. Other than looking after others, Mattie enjoyed painting and helping with the polls on election day. Going to pay respects to her family and friends on Memorial Day was also quite important. Lamont United Methodist Church has been her church home for over 60 years. Mattie also held a lifetime membership in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include her beloved sons: Phillip L. Cardwell and wife Kay of Tonkawa, Gale Cardwell and wife Janet of Liberty, MO, Ty Cardwell and wife Susy of Okarche, OK, sister Jewell Danford of Strasburg, CO, grandchildren: Greg Cardwell, Dana Miller, Bart Cardwell, Matt Cardwell, Davin Cardwell, Ashley Blackburn, Aaron Cardwell, Tara Crawford, Michelle Pacheco, Angie Armstrong, Ruben Pacheco, and Jason Morgan, 30 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Mark Cardwell, brothers: Ralph Dixon, Claude Dixon, John Dixon, sisters: Margaret Ehler, Eula Ehler, Ruth Daniel, and Edith Hurst.
