Henry H Driedger Obituary

On Tuesday, August 23, 2016 Henry H. Driedger, at the age of 95 years, was ushered into the presence of his Saviour after a brief illness.
Henry was born in Rosengart, MB on May 7, 1921 to Heinrich and Judith Driedger. Henry was the oldest of eight children. When Henry was one year old, the family moved to Mexico and at age 15 they moved to Saskatchewan, where they farmed until 1941 when they moved to Manitoba.
Dad was baptized upon confession of his faith when he was in his youth. On September 24, 1944 he married Anna Thiessen.  They lived just west of Gnadenthal on a farm where four of their children were born.  In 1952 they relocated to a farm in the Mason School District where three more children were born. In 1962 the family made another move, this time to Austin, Manitoba where they farmed until their retirement in 1993. After their retirement, mom and dad moved to their new home in Austin, which they enjoyed together until mom was admitted to the care home in 2003.  There dad enjoyed tending to his garden and nurturing his strawberries. After mom was moved to the Care Home, dad sold their home and moved to an apartment in MacGregor where he lived until December 2015.  Dad was always very independent and lived on his own until this past December when his health deteriorated. After a short hospital stay, he was moved to The Foyer in Notre Dame and then to the MacGregor Personal Care Home, where he felt like he was back home again.  After a brief illness, dad went to meet his Saviour and his body was finally able to rest.  Mom and Dad are together again.

Dad loved restoring old machinery. He loved to buy things other people were getting rid of, take them home, and restore them into something useful.
Dad was a great delegator - he enjoyed assigning tasks to his sons and then going to town to pick up parts or run other errands.  Glen's Discount Centre and Norfolk Lumber in Austin were favourite places to catch up on the latest community news and enjoy a pop while he visited.
Dad served on the school board in the Mason School District; he also taught Sunday school at the MacGregor Sommerfeld Church.
Dad was a very meticulous person and a perfectionist in many areas.  He took great pride in his bookkeeping skills and keeping his vehicles in tip top shape.
Dad's best farming years were from 1966 to 1993. He farmed potatoes for Carnation Foods from 1966 to 1974, then moved to just grain farming.

Henry was predeceased by his parents, his wife Anna in 2007, his son Henry in 2013, three grandchildren and 2 sisters (Tina, Judy).  He is survived by two daughters, four sons, 15 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, as well as two sisters (Betty, Susie) and three brothers (Jack, Isaac, Frank).
Thank you to the staff at The Foyer and the MacGregor Personal Care Home for their care for dad and to the church ladies group for serving the food after the service.  Thank you also for the many cards, flowers and messages of condolence.
Dad fought the good fight, he kept the faith, he finished the course, and now there is laid up for him the crown of righteousness which the Lord Jesus will award him.
