Arlene Hogstad Graham
Our mother, Arlene Hogstad Graham, 96, passed away on July 10, 2020 surrounded by her family. The only remaining child of Oscar and Amanda (Haukland) Hogstad. She is now with her family I heaven along with her parents, and brothers Elmer (Dorothy), James(Eunice), and sisters Pansy(Arnold) Nelson, Bernice (Bill) Dennis and Dolores (Leo) Vetch. Born on January 11, 1924 to a strong Norwegian family, she grew up along the banks of the Yellowstone River on the Hogstad ranch east of Livingston. Sheep herding and ranch life was fun and challenging. She attended elementary school at Upper Mission School and Park County High School. In 1943 she married William ‘Bill’ Graham, he preceded her in death in 1990. They lived on the ranch out Swingley Road until 1955 when they purchased a farmstead on North N street and ironically this is where she spent her last days. The same pasture land that they had farmed is now where Caslen Assisted Living Center is located. Residing at Caslen was hard in more ways than one. In 1968 they moved to town and the Crawford Street backyard was alive and vibrant with her roses and flowers. During high school she worked for Woolworth, and after moving closer to town, she worked for Hennessy’s Department Store, Montgomery Ward’s, Farmer’s Co-op and Keifer Motors. She was an excellent seamstress; making all of our clothes and western shirts for Dad. She also had knitting, crocheting and craft projects in process until her eyesight failed. She was a sewing leader for our 4-H Club. She was an excellent baker and always had homemade cookies with a cup of coffee for visitors. Mom and Dad were members of the Moose Club where they spent many enjoyable times dancing, playing pinochle, and bus trips with friends. She is survived by three daughters; Connie Shelhamer, Dee (Abe) Williams and Patty (John) Duncan. Five grandchildren; Will (Cheryl) Shelhamer, Tana (Joe) Steiner, Milissa (Ryan) Wooldridge, Sandra (Jimmy) Marsh and Dusty (Mike) Turnbull. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her as much as we will. Cremation has taken place and at her request no services are planned. Arlene had adopted some very special pets throughout the years, and if desired, memorials in her name may be made to Stafford Animal Shelter, 3 Business Park Road, Livingston, MT 59047.Obituary
