Veloy Buchinski

BUCHINSKI - Veloy Dianne Buchinski (Korney) was the youngest of 12 children born to Roman and Anne Korney on June 2, 1946 in Endeavour, Sk. Veloy attended Endeavour school for her elementary years, and continued on to Sturgis Composite for high school. As a child Veloy helped out in the family store and in her father’s blacksmith shop in the village of Endeavour.

Veloy married Tony Buchinski on May 9, 1964. They began their life as a family of three when they welcomed their son, Troy on June 30, 1964 born in Preeceville, Sk. On July 31, 1973 they completed their family with the addition of their daughter, Tricia, born in Melville, Sk. From Endeavour they moved to Regina for a year, and then to Melville where they settled to raise their family for the next 34 years. While living in Melville Veloy was a homemaker for the younger years of the kids lives. When they were both older she went on to work at Godfrieds Jewellery store and then at a local shoe store. While she lived in Endeavour she also worked for Champion Auctions as clerk, she always enjoyed the road trips back and forth from the auctions with the company.

Veloy was involved in the Melville Kinette Club for many years and served in numerous positions in the club. She was a part of the first Kinsmen Telemiracle and attended them with the club for many years after. While in Endeavour Veloy helped out as a volunteer at the Endeavour curling rink and with the Anglican Church’s annual Church mouse sale.

Veloy had many passions in life, most of which included either being outdoors or being in the kitchen cooking and baking. Veloy was always known to never send any of the kids or grandkids home empty handed- going to baba’s was like going to a “much better than your average grocery store”! Her family will always remember her for her rhubarb pie, they are all yet to taste one better than hers! Veloy’s kids and grandkids will forever cherish the memories made in the kitchen with her and Tony, and the recipes that have been passed down to each of one of them. Baba will be remembered for the 12 course meals she would prepare, even when it was just a spur of the moment, Tuesday night supper! She enjoyed planting her garden every year, and canning everything that she had harvested from the season. As well as gardening, Veloy always enjoyed mushroom and berry picking with her family- this enjoyment is something that has been passed down to her children and many grandchildren.

Another one of Veloy’s pastimes include knitting- blankets, dishcloths, sweaters and slippers to share with her grandchildren and Great-grandchildren. In the winter months Veloy enjoyed curling in the local bonspiels in Endeavour. While in Melville Veloy took leisure in bowling and golfing. When residing in Endeavour Veloy enjoyed curling in the regular and seniors curling season.

Her and Tony enjoyed going camping to different lakes, as well as going fishing to Eldridge Lake at Lawrence and Jane’s Cabin. Veloy was always known to pack a wiener roast no what camping or mushroom picking excursion they were on.

Veloy’s grandchildren and greatgrandchildren were a very special part of her life. She loved to attend school events, hockey, ball games and birthday celebrations. Veloy loved spending time with the kids outside in the garden, on the prairie or just taking a little drive down a back road.

Veloy was predeceased by her parents Roman and Anne, her husband Tony, brothers Norman, Mike, Andy and Lawrence, and her sisters Pauline and Gladys. Veloy is survived by her son Troy (Brenda), Daughter Tricia (Brent), her 4 grandchildren Chelsey (Logan), Ashley, Colby (Jericho), and Sydney (Daniel).
