Fred C. Smith

Mr. Fred Clinton Smith, 91, of Jonesboro, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at his home. Born November 22, 1928, in Meriwether County, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Bryan and Helen Vineyard Smith. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, was a graduate of West Georgia College, and earned his Masters degree from the University of Georgia. He served as principal of Jonesboro High School for a number of years and retired after serving as an educator for 41 years. Mr. Smith was a member of Union Baptist Church in the St. Marks Community of Meriwether County, where he had served as a Sunday School teacher and had 64 years of perfect attendance. He was an avid tennis player, and was also a talented woodworker and furniture maker. Survivors include cousins, dear friends, and countless students that he mentored through the years. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 10, at the graveside in Union Baptist Church Cemetery in St. Marks, with the Reverend Bill Smith officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held in Union Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Baptist Church, %John Carden , 2725 St. Marks Rd., Hogansville, GA 30230, or to TLC Pet Rescue, %Jim Carter, 3198 Jodeco Dr., Jonesboro, GA 30236. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.
