Lewis 'Louie' Medley

Lewis Herbert Louie Medley, son of the late Herbert Medley Sr., Ruby Sullivan and Lawrence Sullivan, was born on September 29, 1959 at Travis Airforce Base, California, and departed this life on January 14, 2017 near St. Louis, Missouri. He was 57 years, 3 months, and 16 days of age. Louie grew up and attended school in Granite City, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Joyce George on April 19, 1986 in Cahokia, Illinois. They made their home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. Louie worked in his younger years with his grandparents carnival. He was a truck driver, delivering gas and also worked as a bus driver. While living in Texas, Louie worked in the oil fields for about 2 years. Louie enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping, hiking, hunting, reading, playing softball, and cooking BBQ for family and friends. Louie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was best known as Big Louie. Besides his parents, Louie was preceded in death by two sisters: Mickie Medley and Valencia Medley; mother-in-law: Nancy George; and a sister-in-law: Anita (George) Bender. Louie is survived by his wife: Joyce Medley of the home; one daughter: Shawna Medley of Mountain Grove; granddaughter: Adrienne Hurst; two brothers: David Medley of Granite City, Illinois and Herbert Medley Jr. and wife, Beverly, of St. Louis, Missouri; two sisters: Linda Beal and husband, John, of Mountain Grove and Vicki Bender of Desloge, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family; and many adopted children and adopted brothers and sisters who will greatly miss him. Visitation: Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel Funeral Service: Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel Memorial Contributions: Donor's choice c/o the funeral home

Prayers go out to Joyce, Shawna and her daughter for the loss of a great man. Louie has touch so many hearts with his kindness. He has help teach my boys so many thing from the time they were little one. Louie was a awesome baby sitter for Kyle. We will miss him.
