Norma Joann Wagner, 76, of Adams Center, died July 2, 2020 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Born November 24, 1943, in Adams Center, she was the daughter of Ross and Marie McIntosh Wagner. She attended Adams High School and graduated from St. Lawrence Central School in Brasher Falls. In 1963 she graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica, and in 1965 became the first female to receive a bachelor’s degree from Clarkson College since 1902. More recently she earned a one-year certificate from Jefferson Community College. She was employed in various data entry and clerical positions at GTE (now Verizon) for 25 years retiring in 1995. Since returning to Jefferson County in 1998, she held a number of positions with Kelly Services and was last employed as a file clerk at Watertown Internists. Norma enjoyed reading, knitting, outdoor photography, and was an avid Star Trek fan, collecting books, DVD’s, and other memorabilia. While in Florida, she had the chance to meet George Takai, James Doohan, and Leonard Nimoy. Genealogy was another favorite pastime, and she traced some of her family lines back over nine generations. She had also volunteered at the genealogy department at Flower Memorial Library and was a member of the Jefferson County Genealogy Society. She is survived by one daughter, May Alexander, North Carolina, and one brother Allyn (Phyllis) of Farmington, ten nieces and nephews, one great-great niece and four great grand nephews. Her parents were killed in an auto accident in 1969 near Massena. She was preceded by a sister, Darcy of Canastota, a brother Ralph of Tacoma, and a sister Shirley of Long Lake. The body was cremated. At Norma’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Adams Center.
