James Kenneth Solomon Obituary

Solomon, James Kenneth, age 88, formerly of Panama City, Fl., went to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2017. He left behind two loving daughters, Janet Brookins (Gary) and Donna Petrie (Steve); eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving him is his sister, Marie; one niece; and 4 nephews. In addition to being a wonderful husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather, Dr. Solomon was a pastor, missionary and Navy chaplain. He grew up in the orange groves of central Florida and proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy, the Coast Guard and Navy Reserves and continued to serve as a volunteer chaplain into his 80's. He loved God, his family and his country. Ken will be remembered for his quiet, gentle and loving spirit as well as his delight in a tasty dessert. His appreciation for the gift of life was reflected in his genuine caring for others as well as his joy of studying the Bible and sharing that knowledge with others. " ... to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." II Corinthians 5:8 A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the Wilson Funeral Home, 214 Airport Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made to Lakewood Benevolence Fund of VBH Foundation, 1900 Lauderdale Dr., Henrico, VA. 23238 in gratitude for the many happy years he enjoyed living in the community or to St. Andrew Baptist Church Mission Fund, 3010 W. 15th St., Panama City, FL 32401 where he was a long-time member.
