Ethelyn "Effie" Ellis

Ethelyn "Effie" Ellis, 91, of Geddes, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at University Hospital. Born in Watertown, she was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area and a graduate of Central High School and OCC. Effie was employed within the banking industry for over 30 years, retiring as manager of the Onondaga County Federal Credit Union. She enjoyed spending time at camp with family and friends and also spending time with her Red Hat Rejects. Effie was the life of the party, had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. Effie was predeceased by her husband, Amon, in 2016; and brothers, Murray "Boots" Goodnough and Harold Goodnough. Surviving are her daughters, Deborah Ballard and Terry Hamilton, both of Geddes; son, Mark (Sheila) Ellis of The Villages, FL; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, March 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 31 at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church. Effie will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Church Food Pantry, 216 N. Lowell Ave., Syracuse, NY 13204. Share condolences at www.BuranichFH.com
