John William Bill Veney, 65, of Luray, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016, at his home. He was born October 5, 1950, in Shenandoah County to the late Charles Edward and Evelyn Johnson Veney. Bill was a lifetime resident of this area and served in the Army for 6 years, later joining the Reserves. In 2015, he retired from Century Link Telephone Company. He was a deacon at the St. Johns Baptist Church Salem in Luray and a member of the Eagles club. Bill loved golfing, fishing, baseball, his family, grandchildren and leading others to the Lord. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Veney; two daughters Wendy Veney and husband, Steve Kozak of West Virginia and Marcia Munoz and husband, Shawn of Maryland; four grandchildren, Jace Munoz, Cade Munoz, Gavi Munoz and Olive Kozak; five brothers, Ronald Veney and wife, Vicky of Luray, Tony Veney and wife, Gloria of New Market, Leonard Veney and wife, JoLynn of Quicksburg, Larry Veney of Harrisonburg, James Veney and wife, Virginia of Broadway; three sisters, Patsy Brown and husband, Larmont of Middletown, Diane Whitley of Harrisonburg, ,Charlene Good and husband, John of Woodstock; an uncle, Robert Johnson; four aunts, Judy Johnson, Inez Veney, Dorothy Johnson and Dolores Johnson; sister-in-law, Edmintrest Veney and Alice Veney; and a brother-in-law, Charles Jr. Frye. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter, Carla Williams; four brothers, Jerry, Charles, Richard and Steve Veney; a sister, Elizabeth Frye; a granddaughter, Tori Williams; an aunt, Marjorie Veney and uncle John Veney. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg officiated by Pastors John Ruffner, Stephanie Callwood and the Rev.
