Leonard W. Wirtz Obituary

Lenny was born August 20,1925 in Minneapolis MN. to William and Margaret (Schroeder) Wirtz.

He was a World War II Veteran. He served in the Army for the 11th Airborne as a paratrooper, from 1943 to 1946.  He seen action in the Philippine Islands and was awarded a purple heart.

 

In 1949 he married Helen Seppenen, the love of his life. They lived in Maple Grove, MN from 1953 - 1965 then moved to Elk River, where they spent the rest of their lives. Lenny worked for the Star and Tribune as a pressman and retired in 1988. He always enjoyed having a hobby farm on the side, raising horses and a few head of cattle.

 

Lenny and Helen loved dancing, and could be found most Friday nights at the Elk River Legion showing off their dance moves.

Lenny loved bowling and was active in league and tournaments through the age of 92. He loved doing anything competitive; horseshoes, bean bags, pool, cards, volleyball etc. He especially liked to challenge his grandchildren at these and give them a few lessons.

He spent many nights entertaining his friends, children and grandchildren playing his guitar and singing.

 

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was a great guy!!
