Anna May Tyler, 95 of Maxwell, died Friday, June 5, 2020, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada-just one day before her 96th birthday. Anna was born June 6, 1924, in rural Collins, Iowa the daughter of Paul and Grace (Cowan) Smith. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1943 and was united in marriage to Velmah Paul Tyler on March 16, 1945, in Oelwein, Iowa. Anna worked in housekeeping at the Story County Hospital for 16 years and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Rock Creek Bible Church in Maxwell and enjoyed sewing, crafting, music, and baking. Anna was the treasurer for the Maxwell Music Mothers, she was a Sunday school teacher and a deaconess at the church for many years. Anna is survived by her children: Vernon (Dee) Tyler, David (Janella) Tyler, Rev. June Tyler, DeeAnna Graham and Sharon Little; 9 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; brother Clyde (Carol) Smith and sisters, Pauline Perin and Lois Westercamp. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, James Tyler; her grandson, Nathan Andrew Tyler; her brothers: Earl, Jimmy, Eldon, Robert , and Everett Smith; her sisters: Ethel Nady, Mildred McIntosh, and Dorothy Smith; her son-in-law, John Little; and her daughter-in-law, Mary Senter Tyler. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11 at the Maxwell Cemetery in Maxwell with Pastors Jesse Hill and Tom Lee officiating. A visitation with family present will be at the cemetery one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Maxwell Historical Society in memory of Anna.
