Sophie Gazvoda

Josephine "Sophie" (Skoda) Gazvoda, of Indianapolis, left her earthly life to rest eternally with Jesus and Mary, on the afternoon of Wednesday June 3rd 2020. She was 100 years old! Sophie was born on September 30, 1919 to John and Louise Skoda and was the youngest of 3 children, with a brother John and sister Louise. Haughville was where she called home for most of her life. She was a devout member of Holy Trinity Parish until its closing in 2014. She attended their grade school, graduated from Washington High School and went on to a business school as well. She married John (Pondo) Gazvoda in 1937 and had 2 wonderful daughters, Patricia Louise (Crossley) and Marilyn Jean (Hart) who doted on her and she on them. Sophie was a tough, hard working, faithful Slovenian Matriarch of her family with a heart of gold.She was a wonderful cook/baker but also loved to eat out. She cherished the times just to "be" with her family. She was a loving child of Christ, devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother to 5, Great Grandmother to 13, Great Great Grandmother to 9 and an Aunt to 5. She was loved by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed. To celebrate Sophie's life and put her respectfully to rest, a funeral mass will take place at Saint Christopher Catholic Church in Speedway on Monday June 8th at 11 a.m.Visitation will be one hour prior to mass at the church and Christian burial will be held directly after mass at West Ridge Park Cemetary. Flowers may be sent directly to the church.
