Mattie Ledford Stilwell

Mattie Ledford Stilwell, 96, of Hayesville went to be with her loving Lord and husband on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at her home. Mattie was a native of Clay County and the daughter of the late Richard and Lassie Ledford. She loved crocheting, gardening, and working in her flowers. She also enjoyed playing guitar, and singing and listening to gospel music. She was a wonderful mother and wife. She was a woman of tremendous faith and a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Elf. In addition to her parents, Richard and Lassie Ledford, she was the wife of the late Ray Stilwell, who died September 28, 2015. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Garland, Arvil, and Kenneth Ledford; three sisters, Betty Davis, Ruth Stamey, and Opal Hughes; and one grandchild, Stacy Stilwell. Mattie is survived by a one son, Stanley Stilwell and wife, Sharon; two daughters, Patricia Schrock and husband, Gary and Linda Conrad; a sister, Janet Ledford; a brother, Alvin Ledford; three grandchildren, Priscilla Stilwell, Greg Wood, and Rebecca Ledford; and a great grandson, Josh Stilwell. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2020 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Charles Shelton officiating. The interment was in Union Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert, Ricky, David, Anthony, and William Stilwell, and Quentin Ledford. The family received friends from 12-1:45 Wednesday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Mattie Ledford Stilwell to the Union Hill Cemetery Fund, c/o Joann H. Woody, 685 Thumping Creek Road, Hayesville, NC 28904. Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville in charge of all arrangements.
