George M. Jones, age 85, of Ball Ground passed away at his residence on May 27, 2020. George was born in Hazard, Kentucky on January 6, 1935 to Reicer Clyde (RC) Jones and Grace Clark Jones. He was the oldest of four siblings: sister Barbara Edwards (Arvid), sister Shelby Bryson (deceased), brother Raymond Jones (Louise). At a young age the family moved to Cherokee County, Georgia where George spent his young life roaming and exploring the woods, creeks, rivers in the foothills of North Georgia. His free-spirited youth instilled an intense love and interest in the outdoors. He became an avid and accomplished fisherman and hunter which lasted throughout his life. After serving with the National Guard, his interest in the outdoors led to a career as a game warden with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division. Early in his career, he was stationed in Rabun County, Georgia and met Mildred Bleckley; they were married in 1965. In the following years, George and Mildred moved several times for his work within the state eventually settling in Ball Ground near his childhood family farm. George retired as Captain from the Department of Natural Resources in 1990 and focused his attention to farming, raising cattle, tinkering with the family sawmill, and foremost hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Mildred B. Jones, son Sheldon Jones (David Hayes), daughter Christi Jones Hobgood (Stuart Hobgood) and two grandchildren Penelope and Blake Hobgood.
