Roy Robert Houde Obituary

Roy Robert Houde, 88, of Salem, New Hampshire passed away at home on May 22, 2020 after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Elaine (Connors) Houde and father of Steven and wife Lynne, Thomas and wife Anne, David and wife Susan, and Michael and wife Jo-Ann Houde. He was the treasured grandfather of Rebecca, Steven Jr., Ryan, Daniel, Sarah, Brianna, Scott, Heather, Nathaniel, and Christopher and great-grandfather of Brett, Ivy, Fallyn, Kamden, Colby, Ysabelle, Julianne, Hailey, Katie, Brittany, Gregory, Chase, and Cullen. Roy was predeceased by his mother Yvonne (Boisvert) and father Raoul Houde, and brothers, Aime, Charles, and Peter. Roy was a lifetime resident of North Andover MA until moving to Salem shortly before his retirement.

Roy enlisted and proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, and until retiring in 1993, Roy was a supervisor with Cardinal Health, formerly JW Daly’s in Lynn, MA for 34 years. Besides cherishing family time, throughout his life Roy enjoyed gardening in his yard, bowling, golfing, watching the Red Sox, and playing cards. In retirement he and Elaine also enjoyed traveling.

Roy was a simple, humble, and kind-spirited man. He was extraordinarily proud to be the father of his four sons and a beloved daughter, Linda, who passed away shortly after her birth. He will be remembered by his family as a person who quietly set a wonderful example of what a father, grandfather, and husband should be. His tremendous love for his wife Elaine was evident each and every day.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation (https://www.kidney.org/support) or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are by the Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Salem, NH. To leave an online condolence, please visit Roy’s tribute page at www.goundreydewhirstfuneral.com.
