Mary Vajgert

Mary Vajgert, 80, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the evening of May 22, 2020 at Unity Point Health Marshalltown Hospital with her family at her side. A Memorial visitation will be held for Mary on Saturday, May 30, 2020 from 12:30 p.m to 2:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. As mandated by Governor Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Public Health visitations are still considered a social gathering and is limited to 10 visitors in the building at a time. Attendees are encouraged to wear a mask and remain in vehicles until ushered inside by a Mitchell Family Funeral Home staff member. Burial will immediately follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens where family and friends are encouraged to bring memories to share at the graveside. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Mary and her family. Maria Landeros Flores was born May 9, 1940 to parents Amando and Antonia (Landeros) Flores in New Braunfels, Texas. She was the fifth born to the family. Mary attended school in Texas through high school. Mary was united in marriage to her husband John Vajgert on December 22, 1960 in Texas. The two began their family in Texas and then moved to Marshalltown, Iowa where they had called home for 59 years. Mary worked as a dental hygienist for her career. Mary and John raised four children together. Mary enjoyed bowling and was a member of a bowling league in Marshalltown. In her free time, Mary enjoyed going for walks, taking trips to the casinos to spin the slots, traveling with her family and friends, going on various hang outs with her friends. She continued bowling with her friends on her league and for fun. She was a very social person who enjoyed being friendly and social with everyone she met and loved family gatherings. Mary would cheer for her favorite team the Dallas Cowboys. Left to remember and cherish her memory are her children Liz (Mike) Benson, Jesse (Amalia) Gonzales, Felix (Denise) Vajgert, and Joe (Lorretta) Vajgert; her grandchildren Hannah Vajgert, Lindsey Benson, Adrian Gonzales, Javier Gonzales, and Caeser Gonzales; her six great-grandchildren; her siblings Penny, Max, Jesse, Johnny, and Junior; and her very special friends the Elliot family. She was preceded in death by her husband John; her parents Amando and Antonia Flores; and six siblings.

Remember going to visit Uncle John and Aunt Mary in Iowa during the summer when we were kids we had some great times over there they will be missed. My condolences to the family. Michael Flores

Though I didn't know her well, we crossed paths many days on the Linn Creek bike trail. She on foot and I on my bike. She and her Collie dogs were a pleasure to see. You could always count on a friendly 'hi' from her. My condolences to her family. Don Maze
