Maxine Cole Richardson, 89, passed away at the FirstHealth Hospice House on Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

A memorial service will be held at the Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church, 6244 NC 73, Jackson Springs on Friday at 11:00.

The daughter of the late Charles Richard and Elnola Stewart Cole was born in Moore County. She was also preceded in death by her brother Paul H. Cole. After graduating from West End High School and Elon University, she taught in the public schools of North Carolina for thirty five years. In 1950, she married Waylon Blue Richardson. They had grown up together in Jackson Springs. He was with the N.C. State Highway Patrol for 41 years. Promotions took them from Elizabethtown to New Bern, Wilkesboro, Hickory, Asheville, Salisbury, Raleigh then home to retire on the farm in Jackson Springs and their home in Sunset Beach.

She and Blue were faithful members of the Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church where they had been baptized, married and then moved their membership back home at retirement. She was an active member of Presbyterian Women, honored with honorary life membership, served as Sunday School Superintendent, elder and various committees.

God truly had a plan for her through and beyond her chosen teaching profession. She touched and enriched the lives of her classroom students, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews and young people in each of the nine communities she called home throughout her life. She is survived by her husband, Waylon Blue Richardson and brother, Charles K. Cole of Cary.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Jackson Springs Presbyterian Church, PO Box 7, Jackson Springs, NC 27281.
