Stella Floy Pace Athens, Texas Obituary

Stella Floy Pace

Stella Floy Pace or “Sis” 101, was born September 7, 1918 in Athens to the late David Lloyd Pace and Stella Day Pace. She graduated Athens High School, North Texas State University (BS) and East Texas State University (MS). After graduating NTSU, Stella taught for three years in the Amarillo School District before moving back to Athens where she worked at the High School as a teacher, coach and assistant principal for over 40 years. She was firm, kind, understanding and could swing a mean paddle. Stella influenced many lives as an educator, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Stella was an excellent caregiver to her mother “Mama Stella” in her final years. She was always a source of strength and support in times of joy and crisis. Stella had a firm foundation, she was steady and did not waiver, a person you could always depend on. Stella’s passion was the family farm where she loved riding horses in her younger days, raising cattle, reading Louis L’Amour books and enjoying her family. She loved watching the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Cowboys and always was willing to share her thoughts on who needed to play and who needed to get shut of. Stella was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Alfred Lloyd Pace and Clyde Day Pace, sisters Mary Will Stiefel and Martha Nell Pugh. She is survived by her sister Marjorie Owens and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be Darrin Asmussen, Tony Owens, Jon Pugh Jr., Justin Pugh, Kyle Pugh and Shane Trantham. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday May 26, 2020 from 8:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. A private family service will be held on Wednesday with burial to be at Owen Cemetery. If desired memorials may be made in her name to a charity of your choice.

What a treasure Miss Pace was!! She was my P.E. teacher and tennis coach. She was always no nonsense, but fair. She inspired many students over the years. I know she will be missed by Marjorie and the rest of the family.
