David Schlader

David Schlader, 85, of Marble Rock, passed away Friday, May 22, 2020 at the Valley View Care Center in Greene. A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Roseville with inurnment taking place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. David Conrad Schlader, the son of Helen (Musil) and Conrad Schlader, was born on October 4, 1934 in Iowa City. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Roseville through 8th grade and graduated from a class of 18 at Marble Rock High School in 1952. He served in the United States Army as a U.S. Army Missile Crewman. David married Pat (Woodhouse) Niedermayer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Roseville on August 6, 1966. David farmed with his family earning several district and regional Iowa Conservation awards throughout the years. He was injured in Charles City as a result of the May 15, 1968 tornado which eventually forced him to leave farming. He graduated from North Iowa Community College in 1976 with a degree in agriculture business. He worked in the agronomy sector until his retirement. His duties included serving as a certified crop advisor. David was very active with St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Roseville. He was a church trustee, served on Parish Council, Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and choir member. He was also a past chair of Board of Education and one of the first religious education instructors for the parish after the school dissolved. He served on the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock district school board for two terms. David was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a master gardener and a stellar griller. He loved watching his grandchildren in sports and plays. Living family members include his wife, Pat; children: Rochelle Arends of Rockford, Rachel Brafford of Nevada, and Ryan Schlader of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren: Joshua, Jamison, Jace, Jocelyn, Justine, Sophia, Cameron, and Macy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandchild, Jordan.
