Harold J. Fields, 88, of West Caldwell, N.J., passed away on May 23, 2020. Private services were entrusted to Shook’s Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove, N.J. Born in Jersey City, N.J. to the late Joseph and Regina Fields, Harold lived in Harrison and Kearny before settling in West Caldwell in 1958. During the Korean War, he honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps. A graduate of Montclair State Teacher’s College, Harold worked for the West Orange Board of Education in the Science Department at Mountain High School and West Orange High School. After his retirement in 1986, Harold worked for many years preparing taxes at H&R Block. Predeceased by his wife, Helen J. Fields, Harold is survived by his daughter, Eileen M. Gargon, and her husband John; loving granddaughters, Alexandra Spedden, and her husband, Pete, and Elizabeth Gargon; cherished great-grandsons, John and Logan; dear brother, James Fields. Harold also had many friends and a large extended family with whom he shared many good times and so many memories.
