Joseph Craig Bateman, 65, of Tabor IA, entered into eternal rest May 22, 2020, after a courageous battle with Cancer. We are comforted knowing he is now pain free and at peace. Born Nov. 6, 1954 in Nebraska City, NE, he was the son of the late Joseph W. Bateman and Doreen J. (Van Scyoc) Bateman. Craig graduated from Glenwood High School 1973. He worked as an industrial mechanic for various companies over the years retiring from Stauffer Chemical plant after 20 years and most recently retiring from the facilities department at Nebraska Medicine in 2019. He enjoyed spending time with his family and being in the great outdoors. He loved wildlife and being out in nature whether it was out walking or for a long drive through the hills he called home and where he chose to live a simple life. Craig is survived by his children: daughter, Tycee (Thomas) Strawmier of Bellevue, NE; sons Joseph R. (Kayla) Bateman of Fremont, NE; Brent (Shawri) Bateman Louisville, NE and Caleb (Katelynn) Bateman of Papillion, NE; 18 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; his mother, Doreen Bateman of Tabor, IA; brothers Jerry Dean Bateman and Jon Bateman of Tabor, IA; and sister Joleen Schomaker of Glenwood, IA. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Preceding him in death were his father Joseph W. Bateman, brother Jeffery Lee Bateman as well as Grandparents Morris and Lucille Bateman and Clyde and Elizabeth Van Scyoc. Graveside services for the interment of ashes will be 2:00 PM Friday, May 29, 2020 the Tabor, IA Cemetery. There will be no viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to go to the family. The Crawford- Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA is in charge of arrangements.
