<p><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Valerie Gay Bowling, 71, of Indianapolis, passed away at 3:40 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2020, at her residence.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Born September 17, 1948, in Seymour, she was the daughter of Willard and Ivy May (Buckland) Gerth. </strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Valerie received her bachelor’s degree in Zoology and Medical Technology from Indiana University. She worked as a medical technician in the laboratory for St. Francis Hospital for 41 years. Valerie enjoyed gardening, traveling, baking and spending time with her family especially her grandkids.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Valerie is survived by her sons, Joe (Brooke) Bowling of Greenwood and Jim (Angel) Bowling of Columbus, Ohio; brothers, Willard (Paula) Gerth of San Jacinto, and Lennard (Dawn) Gerth of Elkton, Florida; grandchildren, Julie Bowling and Emily Bowling both of Greenwood.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>She was preceded in death by her father Willard Gerth and mother, Ivy Gerth who was from London, England.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>A funeral service for Valerie will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Graham Presbyterian Cemetery in Jennings County. In compliance with CDC COVID-19 guidelines, it is recommended that social distancing be maintain.
