Leon Harris, Jr. Obituary

Leon Harris Jr., son of the late Maggie Boylan-Harris and Leon Harris, Sr. was born on September 19, 1944 in Raleigh, NC.   Leon was known as a person who would give a helping hand to anyone in need. He loved his family and would say that it did not matter how a person entered the family-by birth or marriage. Once you were a part of his family, his love knew no bounds. Our beloved ANGEL received his call from God: The Chief Architect, informing him that his new home was complete. Our leader departed this life on Saturday, May 23, 2020. Surrounded by his wife, Marie Harris, and love ones.   Leon received his education from the Wake County Public School System. Eager, determined and motivated to start his foundation. Leon hit the ground running, venturing out into the working community. His years of employment included working as a machine operator and brick mason for Hicks Utilities, Incorporated. He excelled in his duties because he was truly dedicated to his craft. His years of employment also included working for the City of Raleigh in the Public Utilities Department as an Operator II Specialist. No matter the task, he excelled because his heart was in his job. Throughout his career, Leon was loved and appreciated for all his hard work, and widely respected among his fellow co-workers. He was a man of many talents. Leon was preceded in death by his sister, Doris E. McClain; two brothers, Edward L. Harris, and Richard L. Harris; three sisters-in-law, Frances McClain, Pamela Harris, and Geraldine Brodie; and one brother-in-law, McKinley Harris, Jr.   Leon is survived by his wife, Marie Harris; five children, Albert Harris (Sherry) of Las Vegas, NV, Tabatha Duston (Howard) of Raleigh, NC, Antrone Brodie (Shawn) of Raleigh, NC, Leona Mills (Dana) of Greensboro, NC, and Jasper Brodie (Angel) of Raleigh, NC. To further treasure his memories in life is his brother, George McClain, of Baltimore, MD; sister, Bobbie R. Sanders (Gabriel) of Raleigh, NC; four sisters-in-law, Mozelle Harris of Raleigh NC, Delores Brodie of Raleigh NC, Yvern Horton (William) of Linden NC, and Deborah Clark (Willis) of Raleigh NC; two brothers-in-law, Martin Brodie (Doris) of Raleigh NC, and Charles Brodie of Kansas City, MO; twenty grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.   Leon was a devoted family man, good neighbor, and loyal friend. He fought the good fight and finished the race. His family is grateful to almighty for the 75 years, eight months, and four days, he allowed our ANGEL to be with us. We will continue to spread his love and kindness that he freely shared with us during his time on earth.
