Frank J. Kalivoda FRANKLIN - Age 80, passed away peacefully and joined his Lord on May 22, 2020. Frank leaves behind his wonderful, caring and loving wife, Nancy (nee Wessollek), who was his best friend and companion along with his daughters, the pride of his life, Kelley (Mark, MD) Mewissen, Franklin, WI and Kara Kalivoda, Chicago, IL. Frank was a loving brother to Barbara (Donald) Brincka, Carmichael, CA; Mildred (the late Eddie) Gerard, Savoy, IL; and Patricia Taylor, Citrus Heights, CA. Further survived by his good friends, Mike, Roy, and Blake, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Frank was born to Rose (nee Prazak) and Frank I. Kalivoda in Chicago, IL on April 8, 1940. He attended Epiphany Catholic School and Marmion Military Academy in Illinois where he was commissioned brevet 2nd lieutenant for the Illinois National Guard after graduating. He went on to attend St. Mary of Nazareth School of Radiologic Technology in Chicago. Upon graduation, he attended Creighton University in Omaha, NE where he obtained his Bachelors of Science Degree in Radiology Sciences. He received his certification in both radiology and nuclear medicine. He was then employed as Educational Director at St. Ann’s Hospital in Oak Park, IL. He was then recruited for the position of Assistant Administrator at Little Company of Mary Hospital, Evergreen Park, IL. He served in this position from 1966 until 1977 when he became Assistant Administrator at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI. He was promoted to Vice President of Professional Affairs (medical staff) and Cardiac Services. Frank also was awarded and completed a Kellogg Fellowship in Healthcare Fiscal Management at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He built the service to one of the top recognized programs in the United States. Frank worked for St. Luke’s from 1977 to 1998. He then was recruited by Wisconsin Heart and Vascular to assume the position of CEO where his main objective was to plan, construct, staff, and open the Wisconsin Heart Hospital, one of the earliest hospitals dedicated to heart and vascular disease. Upon completion of this undertaking, Frank retired in 2004 and served as a consultant until 2006. Frank was a certified radiology consultant for the American College of Radiology in department design, equipment selection, and installations. Frank published over 50 scientific papers and lectured nationally and internationally, and co-authored a radiology quality assurance book. Frank enjoyed a full life – he was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He was entered into the Manitoba, Canada trophy fishing hall of fame. He also was an avid golfer – playing many tournaments and was a member of one of the pro-am winning teams of the Greater Milwaukee Open PGA Tour. He enjoyed all activities until his passing. The family would like to thank St. Luke’s Medical Center and his doctors, Mark Mewissen, Ed Hastings, Dan Nordin, Dave Rein, Richard Carballo, Gerald Auger, Rubina Qamar and Jeff Derus for all their excellent care. Frank would like to be remembered as a person who cared about people. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church or the Wisconsin Humane Society would be appreciated. Visitation will be held on August 27, 2020 at 10 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 7963 S. 116 St., Franklin, WI 53132 followed by a mass at 11:00 a.m.
