Carol J. Barthel

Carol Jean Barthel, 88, of St. Anne, IL, died on Friday, May 22, 2020, at Miller Healthcare Center in Kankakee, IL. She was born on December 25, 1931, in Thompson, IL, the daughter of Wallace and Helen A. Turnbaugh Ware. Carol married Lyle M. Barthel on November 22, 1950 in Chadwick, IL. He survives. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Kathy and William Evans of Elk City. OK, and Karen and Mark Williams of St. Anne, IL, and one son and daughter-in-law; Kevin and Pamela Barthel of Globe, AZ. Carol had eleven grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters; Betty Shoup of Rockford, IL, and Lois A. Kloepping of Mt. Carroll, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son; David Barthel. After the death of their son, Lyle and Carol came to know the Lord Jesus as their Savior and gave their lives to serve Him. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Carol assisted Lyle in farming for 17 years in Lanark and German Valley, IL, followed by faithful service with Lyle at the Christian Servicemen’s Center, the Union Ministries, in Norfolk, VA and as house-parents at Hope Haven Children’s Home in Virginia Beach, VA. She enjoyed sewing, baking and most of all sharing the Word of God with children and many others. Private graveside services will be held at St. Anne Cemetery, St. Anne, IL. Due to Covid 19 precautions, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
