Daleville...Michael Thomas Murphy, 80, longtime resident of Daleville, went home to be with the Lord in Anderson with his wife of 59 years by his side on May 22,2020.

Mike was born on August 3, 1939 in Terre Haute, Indiana the son of Emma (Coonce) and Harold Murphy.  He graduated from Pendleton Heights High School in 1958 and enlisted in the US Army where he served as a Screaming Eagle in the 101st Airborne.  He was very proud of his service to our country.

He married Carol (Garrett) in October of 1960 and joked that they spent their honeymoon in Germany compliments of Uncle Sam.

Mike worked at General Motors for 30 years, served as a Daleville Town Councilman and was a longtime member of the Daleville Lions Club where he served as President.  He attended Trinity Community Church in Daleville.

Mike loved kids.  During his life he served as a Sunday School teacher, youth group leader, church bus driver, softball coach, and was always in the stands, not only for his children and grandchildren, but for all the young people of Daleville.  You could always count on Mike to make you laugh, tell the corniest of jokes, take you to the movies, have ice cream, and give the best hugs.

He was proceeded in death by his mom and stepdad, Everett and Emma Willis;, his father, Harold Murphy; sister, Pat Selvey; and mother and father-in-law' Walter and Louise Garrett.

Mike is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol, Daleville; daughters Jill Vaught, Zionsville and Kim (Jay) House of Daleville; grandchildren Jason Vaught, San Antonio, Texas; Jordan Vaught, Ft. Wayne; Chelsey (Tanner) Sizemore, Daleville and Mackenzie (Brock) Bell, Fortville; great grandchildren Kohen, Deacon, Maclaren Bell and Atlee Sizemore; sister-in-law, Gerri Garrett, Ft. Wayne; nephews John White, Joe White and nieces Sheri Feke and Terri Moore.

The family would like to thank Salem Township Fire Department and the nursing staff at Northview Care Center for their care and kindness.

Private services will be held on Wednesday at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home,, 8212 South Walnut Street, Daleville with Pastor Tim Glidden officiating.  Burial will follow at Saunders Cemetery, Daleville.

Friends may participate in the procession to the cemetery by lining your cars up at 11:15 at the funeral home on Wednesday.  Social distancing will be suggested at the cemetery..
