Janet Ellen Conroy, age 54, of Lakeside, MT and Long Island, NY passed away unexpectedly in Tampa, FL Wednesday February 22, 2017. She was born January 10, 1963 in Astoria, NY to Marian (Stockinger) Evanilla and George Stockinger, and is survived by her children Kevin Conroy, Kristin (Conroy) Bayliss, Max Conroy, and Kurt Strittmatter. Janet graduated from E.L. Vandermuelen High School, Pt. Jefferson, NY with the class of 1980, later earning her Associate of Arts at Suffolk County Community College, Selden, NY, her Bachelor of Arts at Dowling College, Oakdale, NY and finally her Juris Doctor at Touro College of Law in Huntington, NY. From 1992 - 2010 Janet practiced Law in the state of New York specializing in Real Property Law & land use, while also contributing to her local community through little league & literary award sponsorships, achieving multiple accolades including admission to The Supreme Court and an award from Suffolk County Bar Association for Outstanding Pro Bono work in family home relocation & foreclosure issues. An avid reader and perpetual debater, Janet was never afraid to challenge authority in her personal or professional life when fighting perceived injustice, feeling particularly inspired by Martin Luther King’s words “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Janet always enjoyed making new friends and travel, most recently focusing her energy on planning her relocation to Montevideo, Uruguay June 2017.
