Bernice Katherine Rogosheske Sauk Rapids, Minnesota Obituary

Bernice Katherine Rogosheske

A Memorial Celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. June 16, 2017 at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 177 Glendale Dr., Long Lake, Minnesota 55356. The family suggests memorial gifts be designated for the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids, where Bernice received loving care for the last two years of her life. Bernice, “Sissy” to her family and friends, passed away peacefully January 15, 2017, finally succumbing to Alzheimer’s disease and its long goodbye. Bernice was born in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota on June 19,1918, the second of ten children, to Katherine Hildegard (Thielman) and Royal William Skeate. Bernice’s mother’s family homesteaded near Collegeville, Minnesota in 1855. Her great grandfather, Peter John Thielman, was a founding member of the St. John the Baptist Parish, Collegeville, in 1875. Her father, who died in 1940, was a talented musician who instilled a love of music in Sissy, which she passed on to her children. Bernice married Edward William Rogosheske in 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sauk Rapids, where she became a member and in whose faith she raised their five children. Sissy loved dancing and volleyball, card club and craft club, Ladies Aid and PTA. Her family remembers her consummate homemaking, her immaculate housekeeping, and her hearty and healthy meals. Those traits are known by her children as “The Full Bernice.” Summers at the lake saw her preparing meals for dozens in a cabin kitchen that for years did not even have running water. But best remembered were her skilled and loving care of family in sickness or need. May her memory be a blessing. Bernice was preceded in death by her dear husband in 2009, and by her siblings, Lucille (Knafla), Kenneth, Eldon, Lois (Evans), Royal Jr., and Wesley. She is survived by sisters June Barnes, New York, and Doreen Rosenthal, Phoenix, and her brother Leonard also of Phoenix; and by her children Ronald (Patricia), Philip (Valerie), Judy (George Funk), Jill (Robert Engels), and Charles (Patricia); by grandchildren Michael, Allie, Maria, Abigail, Janelle, Edward, Henry, Annemarie, Sullivan, Katherine and Archer; and by seven great grandchildren.
