Gertrude M. Ruby, 96, of Hannibal, Missouri, passed away at 1:15 PM Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal, Missouri. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home. Gertrude was born May 14, 1920, in Nebo, Illinois to Thomas and Irene Blacketter McCleery. She was married to Richard W. Ruby on January 12, 1945 in Bowling Green, Missouri. He preceded her in death February 13, 2003. Survivors include 1 Daughter, Darlene Hamm (Jim) of Olathe, KS, 2 Grandchildren, Troy Hamm(Christi) and Tracy Cook (Nic), 4 Great-Grandchildren, Travis Hamm, Carly Hamm, Jacob Hamm, Miranda Cook, 1 great great grandson, Cayson Hamm and 1 sister in law, Marsha Ruby. She is preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Lyle Ruby, 1 grandson, Mike Ruby and 1 daughter, Carol Ryan. Gertrude worked as a medical secretary at St. Elizabeth Hospital and prior to that she worked at the Bluff City Shoe Factory. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and knitting. Gertrude enjoyed watching TV, "The Wheel of Fortune" was one of her favorites. Traveling with family is something Gertrude took pleasure in, trips to Florida and Washington, D.C. were special to her. A talented cook, Gertrude made the best fried fish for family gatherings. Most of all Gertrude treasured the time she shared with family and friends. Gertrude was a Baptist by faith and attended Fifth Street Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
