Carl M. Leonard, Sr.

Carl M. Leonard, Sr., 95, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away January 29, 2017. He was born November 17, 1921, in Andover, Virginia, to Lacy Spurgeon and Margaret (Hawkins) Leonard. Carl was of the Baptist faith and was a Navy Veteran of WWII. He played football for Virginia Tech University. Following college, he had a fulfilling career with the railroad from which he retired. Carl loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed carpentry and woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Charlotte Drews; and brother, Chester Leonard. Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Elsie Leonard of Hot Springs; sons, Carl Leonard, Jr. (Joan) of Logansport, Louisiana, Chris Leonard (Deborah) of Friendswood, Texas; daughters, Barbara Theiss (Conrad) of Bonifay, Florida; Margaret Eubanks (James) of Camden, Arkansas; grandchildren, John Kelly (Bernie), Connie Rollins (Toby), Chesley Andrews (Michelle), Julie Dixon (Danny), Missy Parks (Kurt), Joe Eubanks, Allison Wade, Peyton Leonard, Hayden Leonard; thirteen great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; and niece, Bonnie Jackson (John) of Boise, Idaho. Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday February 6, 2017 at Caruth-Halle Funeral Home. Graveside services to celebrate Carl’s life will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
