Obituary

The family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Stuart at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. He is predeceased by his parents Muriel (Pitts) and Stuart ‘Barney’ Kenning, and his first wife Audrey (Crossman) in 1996. He is survived by his wife Ann (Tornay) and his four children Michael (Pauline), Stephen (Shannon), Cathleen (Leonard), Janet (Stephen), his stepdaughter Barbara (Christopher) and nine grandchildren: Robert (Sydnie), Thomas, Kelsy, Alyssa, Amber, Scott, James, Spencer and Charlotte. Stuart, an only child, was born and raised in Victoria, graduated from Oak Bay High in 1948, attended UVic and graduated from medical school at McGill University in 1956. Stuart returned to join his father’s internal medicine practice from 1961 until his father's death in 1975, then specialized in respirology, later becoming head of the Vancouver Island Chest Clinic. He eventually retired from medicine in 2005. Always interested in collecting and the history of medicine, Stuart worked tirelessly with the Victoria Medical Society to save the Pemberton Memorial Operating Room (PMOR) resulting in its designation as both a Provincial Heritage site and a National Historic site. Stuart also enjoyed travelling and spending summers at Shawnigan Lake with family and friends. He was a caring husband and father, and will be missed by all who knew him. Please visit http://Stuart.Kenning.ca for details about a Celebration of Life event, and to donate toward the restoration of the PMOR if you wish.
