Helen Marie Bohnert

Helen M. Bohnert was born November 17, 1930 and passed away January 22, 2017.The daughter of John and Liami Korpela, she was raised on Cottonwood Creek and Shane Ridge, north of Roberts. She attended grade school at the Wilson School and graduated from Roberts High School in 1948. She then ventured to Pullman, WA and graduated from Washington State University in 1952 with a degree in police science and administration. After graduation she returned to Roberts and married Clair Bohnert on October 12, 1952. She worked for the Carbon County Welfare Department from 1953 to 1955. In June 1953 she became a member of La Cuesta Rebekah Lodge #56, held numerous offices and remained a member until present. She was also a member of Kaleva Lodge. In 1957 their daughter Cara was born and they started a poultry business, Rock Ridge Ranch, on the ranch at Boyd, selling eggs throughout Carbon and Yellowstone Counties. Later their daughter Deena was born and finally their son Harold “Hal”. In 1967 she returned to work, for the State of Montana/Carbon County as director of Family Services, retiring in January 1991. In 1993 they sold the ranch and moved to Edgar. Clair passed away in February of 1997 and she remained in Edgar until February of 2007 when she moved to Billings. Helen was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brother John; and twin baby sister Margaret. She is survived by her children Cara Myers of Great Falls, Deena Dell of Phoenix, AZ, Hal of Lavina; nephew Dennis (Kathy) Korpela of Longmont, CO, whom she considered her son; 6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 10 am to 8 pm Wednesday, January 25 at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings. Private family interment will be in the Roberts Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorials may go to Edgar or Lavina Volunteer Fire Depts or Golden Valley Ambulance Service.
