Barbara G. Saltz Hampton, age 78, Erwin, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at her residence, while she was surrounded by her family. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Thomas Lyle Saltz and Georgia Anne Bennett Saltz. Barbara was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a former member of the Erwin Women's Club. Barbara was employed by the Unicoi County School System where she worked as a Substitute Teacher for many years. Also, she was owner and operator of Erwin Lighting. Barbara was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She had a very generous and kind heart. Barbara loved helping others and she was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed family vacations at the beach. Barbara was an avid Canasta player and enjoyed all varieties of card games. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of sixty years, Murrel Hampton; three daughters: Kim Rutherford, Johnson City, Lisa Peterson (Benny), Christy Hyder, all of Erwin and Gary Hyder; five grandchildren: Ben Peterson, Heath Rutherford, Jordan Hyder, Garrett Hyder and William Hyder; two sisters: Susie Riddle (Michael) and Vivian Fisher (Glenn), all of Erwin; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will have a outdoor memorial service at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at her daughter Kim's residence, 332 Bill Garland Road, Unicoi, TN 37692. Pastor Macil Duncan will officiate. Committal will be held at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery.
