DURHAM Betty G. McBroom, 85, of Durham passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Duke Regional Hospital. Born in Chatham County, Mrs. McBroom was the daughter of the late Margaret Marks Goodwin and Charlie Newton Goodwin. Mrs. McBroom was formerly employed in the payroll/benefits department at Verizon. Mrs. McBroom is survived by her husband, E.V. McBroom; a son, Joel Scott McBroom and wife Nina, of Jacksonville; a daughter, Susan Lynn McBroom and husband Bill, of Durham; grandchildren, James Andrew McBroom, Gabrielle Catherine McBroom, Stuart Edward McBroom and Hugh Owen McBroom; and a sister, Becky Boykin and husband Carlisle Dub, of Rocky Mount. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church, Durham, with Rev. Larry Bowden, Rev. Carlisle Boykin and Rev. Kathie Wilkinson officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Clements Funeral Home, Durham.
