Evelyn Frances Bashor Longmont, Colorado Obituary

Evelyn Frances Bashor

Evelyn Bashor passed away peacefully on April 25, 2020, in the loving presence of her daughters, Sherry and Judy, and great-granddaughter, Holly, at her side. She grew up in the Big Thompson Canyon near Estes Park, Colorado. She had many stories of wildlife encounters, and near encounters, and had a deep respect for the power of the water in the Big Thompson River next to their home, and never learned to swim because of it. After her Civilian Nurse Aide work at Fitzsimmons Hospital, and Ronald Bashor’s service in the Navy ended at the close of World War II, they eloped to Ellis, Kansas to be married. They had strong, loving family ties in Estes Park, and lived there the first few years of their marriage. They settled in Boulder, Colorado in the early 1950’s. Evelyn was by Ron’s side as he established his electrical business, Bashor Electric, and she worked as manager and bookkeeper. Together they navigated the many fluctuations in the electrical and construction industries. When her daughters were young, she was a Camp Fire Girl group leader, then volunteered on the Boulder Council and in the course of being involved and supportive, was elected president. She and Ron devoted many hours and weekends in developing the facilities at the Camp Patiya property west of Boulder. Later, she assisted the last Boulder Council of Camp Fire Girls in turning the property over to the Boy Scouts of America. She was a founding member of the Boulder Attention Homes, sharing in establishing the guidelines and visions they needed. She loved living in Colorado her entire life and was deeply inspired by being in the outdoors and Colorado mountains, walking, hiking and organizing many, many camping trips, picnic events and road trips. Up until the last months of her life, she delighted in day trips back to Estes Park, over Trail Ridge Road, and a stop in Grand Lake to take in our “Colorado Gold” aspen fall colors. One of her favorite events was hiking the Grand Canyon with her grandson, Todd, and his Boy Scout troop. She loved taking her family on outings and short trips, and was thrilled to visit Hawaii a few times, and visit the Northwest coastline, including time with family and friends in that area. Evelyn was a strong cornerstone for her family and friends, from hosting regular family dinners, holiday get-togethers, to general fun times. She always lent a hand when needed and was willing to go the extra mile for others. She loved her many pets over the years and enjoyed the raccoons and squirrels at her home. She is survived by two daughters, Sherry Bashor and Judy Bashor, four grandchildren Yvette Sandillo, Todd Ellison, David McClellan and Erin McClellan, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ronald Bashor, her brother Arthur Long, and sisters Irma Ray, Helen Davis and Joan Atkission. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to The Wildlife Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado, which she enjoyed visiting many times and encouraged everyone to see at least once. Or a donation to a charity of choice. A private family burial will take place and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
