Lawrence Smith, Jr.

THE CELEBRATION OF LIFE Lawrence Smith, Jr. was born November 26, 1960 in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Lawrence and Hazel Smith. Affectionately known as 'little Lawrence', he was the youngest of five siblings. Lawrence departed this life on April 3, 2020 in Newark. He attended Barringer High School in Newark, New Jersey and graduated from The Learning Experience High School in Newark. After graduating from high school, Lawrence attended Biscayne College in Miami, Florida as a Business major. (And a minor in beach going) Because of his outgoing personality, Lawrence spent most of his working years in sales. He worked at Macy' s NY and other locations over twelve years and Lord& Taylor for about five years. Lawrence had a special gift for drawing people like a magnet because of his friendly, caring and sincere spirit. Lawrence enjoyed life. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was an avid sports fan of basketball and football, but his passion was dance and music; specifically House Music. Lawrence had a host of house community friends with whom he organized and attended countless events. He was a good friend and a great dancer. The dance floor will never be the same without him. At an early age, Lawrence began his spiritual journey. He was trained as a youth to obey God's ways. He leaves behind his legacy of love and devotion. His faith was quiet but seen in his care and concern for others, as one who hated to see people mistreated and not valued, he helped whomever and whenever he could. A wonderful brother, uncle and friend, Lawrence left to continue his legacy: two devoted brothers James H. Keels and Larry (Ernestine) Keels, Jacksonville, FL; two nurturing sisters Gloria Keels, Bethlehem, PA and Elaine Keels, Newark, NJ; nieces and nephews, Shaheda Keels, Kirsten Keels, Kristal Keels, Kourteney Keels, Kim (Leland) Lyle, Larry Keels, Jr., Lorenzo (Keisha) Keels; and a loving host of grand-nieces and nephews, cousins, and a whole host of friends. He will surely be missed by all who knew him. This Online Memorial has been created to commemorate the life of Lawrence Smith, Jr. Leave a message on the Tribute Wall to share your favorite memories and offer words of sympathy and comfort. God Knew God knew when he was born This day would surely come. So many wonderful years with family and friends; God knew that one day this would end. Countless days of laughter and some days of tears; Our baby brother was given many amazing years. Our hearts are heavy and laden with sorrow; We pray that God will provide strength for tomorrow. In God's garden there are many beautiful flowers; We don't know what day he would pluck them nor the hour. On April 3rd He chose one of a kind; One that will always stay on our mind. We are thankful for our dear brother; He brought so much joy in our lives. It is not easy to say goodbye; But with God's help, we will try. Precious Memories Remembering little Lawrence Little Lawrence, our beloved brother Always loving and so kind Willfully spread joy all around Rich in humor and loved by many. Energetic, smart, and blessed Never without kind words Compassionate, grateful, and caring Every day our amazing brother will be missed Expressions of Gratitude The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many comforting messages, prayers, and other expressions of kindness, support, and love shown during our time of bereavement. It has been a blessing to each of us. May God richly bless you.
