Sir John Lewis Maas PHD, 79, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died Saturday, April 11, 2020 at the Winchester Medical Center. He was born August 13, 1940 in Detroit, MI; the son of Lewis D. and Marcella S. Maas. John retired the USDA as a plant pathologist. He was a member of the North-South Skirmish Association and the North American Strawberry Growers Association. John married Sarah Rutledge Withers November 3, 2001 in Maryland. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dianne Maas and a daughter, Kathy Hebner. Along with his wife, Sarah, he is survived by two children; David Maas (Andrea) of Pacific, MO and Michael Maas (Sarah) of Arlington, VA; two grandchildren; Audrey Hebner of Baker City, OR, and Rebecca Maas of Arlington, and two siblings, Gary Maas of Lake, MI and Carol Moeckel of Grass Lake, MI. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
