Joseph Colaizzo

Joseph (Joey) Colaizzo, age 68, of Brooklyn, NY died on Saturday, March 28, 2020 in his Bay Ridge home. He was born on January 3, 1952 and was 1 of 8 children born to Helen & Frank Colaizzo. Joey attended the New York School of printing. He was then hired to work at Mela Printing and was responsible for stripping negatives to send out to the printing press until 1987. In 1990 he started working for the New York Racing Association (NYRA) as a supervisor for the mail operations at Belmont and Aqueduct racetrack where he retired in January 2015. Joey had a great appreciation for all genres of music and even hitched a ride to Woodstock on a fruit truck! He was a collector of all types of music and enjoyed the Rolling Stones. He once told his wife, if you ever want to see a concert, it is the Stones performing. Prior to retiring, Joey loved the beach, swimming, boating, bike riding, barbecuing with friends and family, as well as staying in touch with his best friend Michael and his band in California. He is survived by; his wife of 34 years Valerie Colaizzo, his sisters, Theresa Lacicero, Mary Luchese, Donna Imperato, his brothers; Michael Colaizzo, and Carmine Colaizzo, his stepdaughters Tanya Fergus, Serena Oliver, Nieces, Nephews and Grandchildren. He will be missed by the family and lifelong friends. A Memorial Service will announced later.
