Maxine Rodgers, 91, of Robinson, IL, died Saturday, March 28, 2020, at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. She was born May 28, 1928, in Petrolia, IL, the daughter of Odin Christopher Craig & Erma Vivian (Glosser) Craig. She married Glenn D. Rodgers on January 15, 1944, and followed him to El Paso, TX, where he was stationed while serving his country in the U.S. Army. Upon his discharge, they moved to the Trimble area before finally settling in Robinson in the mid 1950s. Much of her early life was spent caring for her house and all who called it "home". She prided herself on keeping her residence immaculate; no small job, considering that she was raising three children at the time. Eventually, she entered the work force, finding employment with a number of area businesses, including the Robinson Bowling Alley and the Arvin Motel before landing a cleaning job at Marathon. This led her to become the first woman hired to do shift work for the company when she was asked to come on as a laboratory tester. Never one to let dust settle, her retirement years found her working as a shampooer at the Curling Iron, a position that allowed her to tap into her sociable nature. Time at home found her hard at work in her kitchen. Her baking skills were put on display with every Spanish cream pie or batch of cinnamon rolls she made. Her shrimp dip in particular became the stuff of legend among those who had the good fortune of having Maxine cater their party. As she grew older, few things brought her more joy than watching her grandkids' events. Anyone who knew her could attest that they were each the apple of her eye and brought newfound life to her living. Maxine was always very active in her community. A longtime advocate of the GOP, she was a past president of the Crawford County Republican Women and also served as precinct committeeman for several years. A woman of faith, she was also highly active at Highland Avenue Baptist Church. Her church family will remember Maxine as both a Sunday school teacher and as the de-facto church decorator up until her health kept her from doing so. We who are left behind find peace in knowing that Maxine Rodgers fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith, a faith that has made her whole in the presence of her Savior. She is survived by her son, Gary & Susan Rodgers (Robinson, IL); by her daughter, Debbie & Greg Wolfe (Robinson, IL); by her grandchildren, Amy & Mark DeDoming, Tricia & Jay Anderson, Allen Rodgers, David Rodgers, Sherrì Timms, Michele Rodgers, Rachelle Rodgers, Nick Wolfe, and Pat & Jessie Wolfe; by several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; by her sister, Katherine Dale (Bridgeport, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Odin Christopher & Erma Vivian Craig; by her husband, Glenn Rodgers; by her son & daughter-in-law, Glenn A. "Bub" & Brenda Rodgers; by her granddaughter, Nicole Carpenter; by three brothers in infancy; by her sister, Laura Captolia Hill; and by her brother-in-law, John Robert Dale. In light of the CDC's recommendation and the State of Illinois' mandate to limit public gatherings to no more than ten people, there will be no public visitation.
