Mr. Franco Devon “Banks” Benjamin, son of Herbert Lee (Jacquette) Boone and the late Pamela Jean Benjamin, was born on March 13, 1977 in Sumter, SC. Franco grew up on “Brand Street” in the Sumter Community. He was affectionally called “Tonka” as a child due to his toughness, strength and desire to rebuild. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. Graduating from Sumter High School Class of 1995. His toughness long with stubbornness landed him his first job at the age of eleven, with his father’s construction company “H.L. Boone” as a laborer. He was later employed by Bakkavor Bakery as a manager in Charlotte, NC. Until his health declined beyond his ability to work. Franco, accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in his early Christian upbringing. On May 13, 2006, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Gwendolyn “Gwen” Slater. Franco loved him some “Gwen” and Gwen loved her some Franco, literally through sickness and in health. To this union they were blessed with two sons and a daughter. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emmanuel and Annie Mae Benjamin, Walter and Evelyn Boone, three uncles, Emmaunel Jr., Frankie and Larry Benjamin, two aunts, Annette and Jeanette McFadden. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Gwendolyn Benjamin; his father,Herbert Lee (Jacquette) Boone; two sons, Patrick Slater and Devontae Benjamin; a daughter, Devonna “Butterfly” Benjamin; three sisters, Denise Davis, Tammy Benjamin and Herlonda (Andre) Washington; three brothers, Herbert (Sharon) Benjamin, Daniel Williams and Brandon J. Boone; five aunts, Patrica A. Gordon, Matthette (Joe) Gregg, Tryfenia (Crystal) Moses, Mary Phillips and Catherine Jacobs; three uncles, Hillard Boone, Harold (Carrie) Boone and Timothy McFadden; a mother in love, Naomi Slater; two sisters in love, Teresa Hunter and Felicia (Willie) McCray; one brother in love, Jeffery Bowmen; three children reared in home, Justice Slater, Jasmine and Justin Doby’ two god-children, Fe’Eveah “Chunk” Wilson and Rodrick Pringle, Jr. (RJ); two special cousins, Sherri Benjamin (Jacob) Dennis and Jermaine Benjamin and a host of other relatives and friends.
