Milton Augustus MacDonald “Mac”, 94, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at Madigan Estates in Houlton. He was born June 16, 1925, in Portland, the son of Ella (Cushman) MacDonald. Mac spent most of his childhood in Portland, later completing high school in Vermont. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during WWII, as an Aviation Cadet. Upon his discharge, He attended and graduated from Bowdoin College earning a bachelor's degree in Business. On November 23, 1954 he married his beloved Sarah Crowell and together they would raise four children. He earned his master’s degree in education from Rutgers University, New Jersey. He would teach English and upon moving to Massachusetts became a Guidance Counselor. Mac was a sports enthusiast, Spending much of his life in New England he followed their teams, his favorite being the Red Sox. He especially enjoyed college football and was a longtime Penn State fan. He loved playing golf and tennis well into his 80’s. Over the years he taught youth tennis and swimming lessons at the various community centers. He belonged to Veterans of America, the American Legion and was a Master in the Masonic Lodge. Mac’s faith was such an integral part of who he was.. He was passionate about serving the Lord in both time and service participating on many boards and committees in the Episcopal churches he attended. He is survived by his four children: Hollie McPartland and her husband Jim of Linneus, Darnell LaRosa and her husband Paul of Ohio, Gail MacDonald of Houlton, Bradford MacDonald of New Hampshire, five grandchildren: Andrew McPartland and his wife Megan of New Limerick, Amie Belyea and her husband Matt of Houlton, Rebecca Pitts of Pittsfield, MA, Casey Irvine of New York, NY, Samantha Metzlar of New York, three great granddaughters: Lidia, Madilyn, and Charli. He also leaves behind his second wife Joanne Penzien-MacDonald and her family of Michigan. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his wife Sarah “Sallie” MacDonald in 2000. He valued his family and was a constant inspiration to each. The family would like to thank each health care provider at Madigan Estates for the kind care given to their dad. A committal service with military honors will be conducted at a later date in Brunswick, ME.
