Jackie Eugene Denney

Jackie Eugene "Gene" Denney, age 73, Unicoi, passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Russell County, Kentucky and a son of the late Walter Denney and Josie Gadberry Denney Southerland. Gene moved to Unicoi County in 1996. He was a United States Air Force Veteran having served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. Gene was a former employee of Texas Instruments where he worked as a RM Tech. He was of the Baptist Faith. Gene loved collecting junk, bluegrass music, working on old cars and tinkering with electronics. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Jeanne Owens Denney and one step-son, Justin Vance. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of twenty-five years, Marie Arlene Powers Denney; two sons: Michael Denney and Matthew Denney (Brenda), all of Elizabethton; one daughter, Michele Rollins (Gary), Johnson City; one step-son, Jason Vance (Jennifer), Unicoi; one step-daughter, Jennifer Lowe (Greg), Huber Heights, OH; three brothers: Arnold Denney (Kay), Bill Denney (Sue), all of KY and Phillip Denney (Patty), Delaware; four sisters: Evelyn Dalton (Keith), Janice Dalton (Bob), Karen Mofield and Katherine Corder (Eddie), all of KY; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2020 in the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Eddie Blazer will officiate at the 5:00 PM service. Committal will be held at 1:00 PM in the Mountain Home National Cemetery on Monday, March 9, 2020. Military Honors will be rendered by Carter County Honor Guard. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 PM on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Gene to: Marie Denney, 537 Lower Stone Mountain Road, Unicoi, TN 37692.
