Betty Jean Godfrey Obituary

Betty Jean Godfrey December 14, 1926-November 6, 2016 Betty Jean Godfrey passed peacefully from this life on November 6, 2016. A memorial service will be held in December. She was born to Valora and Stanley Carpenter in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, on December 14, 1926. Growing up on a farm, Betty always liked gardening and being outdoors. After high school, she graduated from nursing school and then became part of the Army Nursing Corps during World War II. She married Charles Godfrey in 1953, and they had two daughters, Lynne and Chris. Business opportunities moved them around the country, until they settled in Arlington, Texas. Many summer evenings were spent volunteering with the Texas Rangers’ Women’s Club and attending the baseball games. She was a nurse at Six Flags over Texas and also the head nurse, for many years, at the Greenhouse Spa in Arlington. She and Charles loved to travel and were able to visit many parts of the world. After Charles passed away in 1998, Betty eventually moved to Waco to be close to her family. She was a member of Woodway First United Methodist Church and the Red Hat Society. Betty is survived by her daughters, Lynne Johnston and husband, George, and Chris Terry and husband, Stan; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Betty will be greatly missed by her family and friends who enjoyed her quick wit, charm, and lively spirit. The family would like to thank the staff at Stoney Brook of Hewitt who took such loving care of their mom these past four years. They also appreciate her primary care physician, Dr. Tim Martindale, for his gracious spiritual attention to Betty during her last few days. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
