Major Joseph D. Taggart, USAF, Ret.

Major Joseph D. Taggart, Air Force, Ret., 74, of Etters, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016 in his residence. He was a 1960 graduate of Corry Area High School, Corry, PA; a 1964 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University; entered the U.S. Air Force as a Second Lieutenant and served five years active duty before serving an additional seventeen years in the Air Force Reserves from which he retired in 2002 as a Lieutenant Colonel. While serving as a “Weekend Warrior”, Joe worked for Agway in Clearfield and then owned and operated his own company, Capricorner Log Homes and built fifty six log homes from Danville, PA to Washington, D.C. Joe attended Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church, Etters; was an avid Penn State fan; and enjoyed Jeeping, woodworking, camping at Raystown Lake and playing cards. He was born in Corry, PA to the late Daniel and Katherine Taggart and in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by a grandson Nicholas, a brother Daniel and a sister Agnes. He is survived by his wife Fonda; children, Desmond, Ron, Jeannie, Dana, Heather, and Dusten; a sister Lydia; eight grandchildren, Alexis, Shawlyn, Sheldon, Hailey, Justin, David, Paislee and Maggie; and a great grandson Logan. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 pm on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Fishing Creek Salem United Methodist Church, 402 Valley Rd. Etters, PA 17319 with the Rev. Dr. Deborah J. Heisley-Cato, his pastor officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to service time in the church. I was so sad to hear about the passing of Joe.
He was such a great person.
He re-modeled our old house from top to bottom.
He would have lunch with us and occasionally a beer.
He always talked about you.

Uncle Joe has always been a kind and upbeat soul. He had a smile that would light up the room and would do anything for those he loved. My thoughts and prayers go out to the whole family.
