Ruth Helen Reich Beck Obituary

Mrs. Ruth Reich Beck, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Priddy Manor Assisted Living in King. She was born June 13, 1927 in Forsyth County to the late John Lewis and Flora Tatum Reich. Mrs. Beck was a graduate of Rural Hall School, where she served as President of her senior class, was an outstanding basketball player, and a member of the athletic county track team. After high school, she played four years with the Chatham Blanketeers women’s semi-pro basketball team of Elkin and finished her basketball career with Hanes Hosiery. Mrs. Beck also was an excellent golfer and enjoyed playing at Pinebrook Country Club. She was a faithful member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and volunteered for Meals on Wheels over 10 years along with her husband. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Beck was preceded in death by her husband, Billy R. Beck and two sisters, Betty Gayle Bennett and Rosanelle Kiger. She is survived by her son, Ted R. Beck (Denise Clodfelter); brother, John W. Reich (Patricia); sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Williams; brother-in-law, Jack Bennett, Sr.; three nephews: Jack Bennett, Jr., Ricky Lee Clayton (Anita), and Randy Coleman Clayton (Missy); two nieces, Lori Carlyle (Mark) and Lynda Nasti (Robert); and a host of extended family. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church with the Reverends Emily and Eric Larson officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 357 Old Hollow Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 or to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, P.O. Box 863, Walnut Cove, NC 27052.
