James Louis Outz, Jr.

James Louis Outz, Jr., 72, of Prosperity, died Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Lexington Medical Center. Born on June 4, 1944 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Virginia Leslie and James Louis “J.L.” Outz, Sr. He was a faithful member of Macedonia Lutheran Church. Boating and spending time on the water brought him pleasure and so did music and his Clemson Tigers. Shagging was a favorite pastime. He was a member of the Columbia Shag Club and along with his wife, was an inductee into the SC Shagger’s Hall of Fame. Additionally, they were the first couple to become Palmetto Pals in the Palmetto Shag Club. Family was his top priority and he treasured the moments spent with all of them. He is survived by his wife, Janice Outz; children, Pamela Outz Hipp (Doug) and James L. “Trey” Outz, III both of Prosperity; grandchildren, Nicholas L. Hipp (Kim) of Chesapeake, VA, Lindsay Wicker (Nate) of Little Mountain and Erin Rhae Outz of Prosperity; great grandchildren, Mason Elizabeth Hipp, Abbie Rae Wicker and Maddox Steven Wicker; and sisters, Barbara Johnson of Chattanooga, TN, Donna Lawson of Cowpens, and Lynn Hughes of Spartanburg. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Macedonia Lutheran Church, Lakeshore Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Randall Derrick. The family will receive friends at the site following the service. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Columbia Shag Club.
