Ronald Walker

In loving memory of Reverend Ronald Albert Walker. Ron went home to be with his Heavenly Father at the age of 63. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in High Point, North Carolina on August 19, 1946 to Albert Vernon and Edith Madelene Gurley Walker. He was reared in North Carolina and Texas and graduated from Teague High School in Teague, Texas in 1965. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1965 and served his tour at Ft. Bliss, Texas. After completing his tour, he began his career at SIC Finance Company from 1968 to 1979. In 1980, he surrendered to the ministry and served his Lord for 30 years as a Pastor. His final Church home was First Baptist Church in Mathis, Texas. There he ministered to his Community for 10 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Deborah Jean (Walters) Walker; one son, Ronald David Walker and wife, Kelli C. of Corpus Christi; one daughter, April Michelle Walker-Lara and husband, Joe of Mathis; his mother, Madelene Lanningham of Mathis; one brother, Vernon Keith Walker and wife, Sue of Temple; he was also a proud grandfather (Papa) of two granddaughters, Victoria Lauren and Britnie Morgin Walker of Hearne, Texas and two grandsons, Anthony Rey Gonzale and Nicholas Aaron Lara of Mathis, Texas; niece, Crystal Walker; nephew, Robert Walker of Temple, Texas; and a host of Church family and friends. Visitation will be from 1-9 PM Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Dobie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 19, 2009 at 10 AM at First Baptist Church. There will, also, be a visitation on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 from 9-12 Noon at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home in Mexia, Texas with a graveside service to follow at 1 PM at Wilson Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Mathis in memory of Ron.
