Camille Blackman Jacksonville, Florida Obituary

Camille Blackman

Camille Davis Blackman was born on June 8, 1917, in Hazlehurst, Georgia, to Carrie Magnolia Harris Davis Haynes, the second of seven siblings. As a young adult, she moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where she met and married Edward Blackman in 1944. This union joined their two families together as one, which included his son, Edward James Blackman, Jr. She was a sustaining member of Mt Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on District Six, Dea. Leonard Wilcox, Leader, and in the church’s Deaconess Ministry. She was gainfully employed as a domestic worker with several families in Jacksonville. Her life was defined most by her profound spirituality and deep Christian faith. As a devoted mother, her greatest joy was watching her daughter achieve personal, educational, and professional success. On the evening of Wednesday, November 7, 2007, the Master called this precious woman of God, and she took flight to her eternal home, ever to be with the Lord. Mrs. Blackman was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Carrie Magnolia Haynes; beloved husband, Dea. Edward Blackman, Sr.; son, Edward Blackman, Jr.; great grandson, Dominique Blackman; siblings, Mr. Paul Haynes, Dea. Andrew J. Buggs, Sr., and Mrs. Louise V. Powell; and son-in-law, Isiah James, Jr. She leaves many to cherish her legacy, including her loving daughter, Carol James; ten grandchildren, Pia James, Los Angeles, CA, Michele James, New York, NY, Scott James, Tallahassee, FL, Sonya James, Isaiah James, Edward Blackman III (Margaret), Valarie Blackman, Sharee Blackman, Dwayne Blackman, and Lawanda Cummings (Arthur), all of Jacksonville; great-grand child, Aysia Camille Rivera, Los Angeles, CA; sister, Mrs. Henrietta Wolfe, Jacksonville, FL, two brothers, Hoover Haynes (Dorothy), Macon, GA, and Paul Quincy Haynes (Anne), Valdosta, GA; daughter-in-law, Janie Ethel Blackman, Jacksonville, FL; and many more adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends, to include devoted nephew, Henry L Sellers, Sr., Cynthia Upson, Lynett Powell Dennard, Michael Powell III, Andrew, Jr., Clifford, Sr., Charles and Attty. Harrel Buggs, June Buggs-Davis, Karen Jenkins, Barbara Hugley, Marian Simpkins, Christine Dawson, Henry Allen, Charlie Walton, Jr., and Annie Williams. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Psalm 91:2
